Liu Beicheng, graduated at the History Department of Beijing Normal University in 1981, where he obtained his master degree. He was former professor of history at Beijing Normal University, and supervisor of the doctoral program.

Currently he is professor at the Department of History, Tsinghua University.

He is editor of the "World History" journal, Deputy Secretary-General Modern World History Institute, and part-time researcher at the National Examination Center of the Ministry of Education.

Professor Liu Beicheng has long been engaged in teaching and research in modern world history and the history of western thought, in the Review of Contemporary Western thought, the translation of foreign historians and modern world history studies striking the achievements of modernism. Currently chaired the national key project "Comparative Study of 17-19 century Western historians".
